Apple will lay off 614 employees in California. According to CCTV Finance, Apple's announcement shows that these employees received a layoff notice on March 28th, and the layoff decision will take effect from May 27th.
On April 6th, it was learned from the California Department of Employment and Development and the Warn Database that Apple employees affected by the layoffs are working in eight different locations in Santa Clara, USA. Most of these locations are believed to be where Apple's automotive team members work. Among them, the most common workplace involves 371 people. The document also shows that personnel changes will officially take effect on May 27th.
As of the time of writing, Apple has not yet responded to the reporter's interview request.
In February this year, Apple was blasted to cancel its autonomous vehicle project. Its car team has nearly 2000 employees. Some employees of this project will be transferred to other departments, and others may be fired.
This also represents a strategic change for Apple. Many members of the original automotive project will be transferred to the artificial intelligence department under the leadership of Apple's Senior Vice President, John Giannandrea, focusing on generative artificial intelligence projects.
Apple CEO Tim Cook previously mentioned in a conference call that the company is developing generative artificial intelligence software features that will be available to customers later this year.
It is worth mentioning that at the beginning of last year, when the US technology industry was in a wave of layoffs, Apple stated that layoffs were the "last resort" and the company would rather manage costs in other ways.
