On November 25th, Tesla announced on its official WeChat account the implementation of the "limited time delivery final payment reduction" policy. For the Model Y rear wheel drive version and long-range all wheel drive version models, orders will be placed and delivered before December 31st, with a final payment reduction of 10000 yuan and a starting price of 239900 yuan. In addition, you can also choose a 5-year zero interest financial plan for purchasing a car, with a down payment of 79900 yuan and a monthly payment starting at only 2667 yuan.
It is reported that this is the lowest price in the history of Tesla Model Y since its launch, and Tesla has launched the above-mentioned limited time discount policy in order to sprint towards its annual sales target.
The reporter noticed that Tesla has launched at least 5 promotional activities in the Chinese market since the beginning of this year. On January 12th, Tesla China's official website adjusted the prices of the Model 3/Y rear wheel drive version and long-range version by a range of 6500 to 15500 yuan. On February 1st, Tesla offered a limited time discount of 8000 yuan in cash for the designated version of Model Y. On March 1st, Tesla offered a limited time car purchase benefit of up to 34600 yuan. On April 21st, Tesla reduced the price of its Model Y, Model S, and Model X models for sale in the Chinese market by 14000 yuan. On July 1st, Tesla launched multiple car purchase discounts such as "5-year zero interest" for Model 3 and Model Y.
Irregular promotional activities also provide some help in increasing delivery volume. According to the financial report, Tesla delivered 463000 units in the third quarter of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 6.4%, marking the first quarter of this year with a year-on-year increase in sales and setting a delivery record for the third quarter of previous years. In the first three quarters of this year, Tesla delivered approximately 1.3 million electric vehicles worldwide.
However, considering Tesla's annual record of 1.81 million vehicles last year, it is clear that there is still pressure on Tesla this year. According to preliminary data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on November 4th, Tesla's Shanghai factory in China saw a decline in delivery volume in October. Specifically, Tesla delivered 68280 Model 3 sedans and Model Y SUVs last month, a year-on-year decrease of 5.3% and a sharp drop of 23% compared to September.
Therefore, the price reduction for the best-selling Model Y is understood by the market as a key move to boost momentum at the end of the year.
