The IAM District 751, representing approximately 33000 Boeing workers in Washington state, announced on September 24th local time that its members have a firm stance and are ready to continue mediating or negotiating directly with Boeing at any time. The largest union of Boeing stated that yesterday's result was very clear, the proposal was not sufficient, and the company's decision to bypass the union was seen as disrespectful to the union.
On the 23rd, Boeing directly proposed a 30% salary increase to striking workers, which angered union leaders. Boeing's factories in the Pacific Northwest region have been shut down as a result. Earlier this month, union members rejected Boeing's initial proposal for a 25% salary increase, and Boeing's current proposed 30% salary increase is still below the union's demand of 40%. Boeing stated that this is the final plan, valid until September 27th, to increase pressure on workers to accept its proposal.
