Ford Motor, General Motors, and Chrysler's parent company Stellantis have agreed to pay strike workers wages during the strike, as part of a new labor agreement reached with the United Auto Workers (UAW) late last month to end the strike.
According to insiders, this move is unusual in the history of negotiations between the union and the car company.
According to insiders, UAW workers who participated in strikes at the three companies mentioned above can receive an average compensation of slightly more than $100 per day during the strike period. This is the additional income paid by UAW to strike workers from their own strike fund, in addition to $500 per week.
In approximately six weeks, over 45000 workers participated in the strike, although some locations had longer strike times than others.
The union employees who were temporarily laid off due to strikes among these three Detroit automakers are also expected to receive similar payments from the company.
