On June 14th, an aircraft supplier claimed that some of the titanium components of recently produced Boeing and Airbus jet planes were sold using forged certification materials. Spirit AeroSystems, which provides the fuselage for Boeing and wings for Airbus, and the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States are investigating the forged documents. The Federal Aviation Administration stated in a statement that it is investigating the scope of the issue and attempting to determine the short-term and long-term safety impacts on aircraft manufactured using these components. It is currently unclear how many aircraft components are manufactured using this problematic material. (New York Times)
