Robin Lee, the founder, chairman and CEO of Baidu, once said that the most important thing to promote in 2024 is to let everyone have the ability to be a programmer. Within Baidu, an AI programmer has quietly been on the job for a year, proficient in over 100 mainstream development languages, and has even written a quarter of Baidu's internal code. It is Baidu Comate, an intelligent code assistant launched by Baidu.
In April 2024, on the occasion of this AI programmer's one-year probation, Baidu officially released Baidu Comate 2.0, which is fully free for individual developers.
The Comate capability of version 2.0 has been fully enhanced, allowing for in-depth interpretation of enterprise and personal private domain code libraries. Developers can not only ask any questions related to the code repository, such as "what is the current architecture of the code" and "how is the authentication logic implemented", but also mount proprietary knowledge such as company development documents and API documents, allowing Comate to break down requirements according to document descriptions, generate new code, and reduce manual reading and understanding of development documents. At present, all features including single line/multi line continuation, multiple recommendations, comment generation code, repair suggestions, long function splitting, and chat questioning are available for use by all developers.
Outside of Baidu, Baidu Comate has also joined more than 10000 companies such as Himalaya, Softcom Power, and Shanghai Mitsubishi Elevator, with a company code adoption rate of nearly 50%.
Robin Lee said: "There will only be two programming languages left in the future, one is called English and the other is called Chinese. There will be no such career as a programmer in the future, because as long as you can speak, everyone will have the ability to be a programmer."
