Airbnb released a policy update on safety cameras on March 11th, announcing that indoor safety cameras are prohibited from being used in properties worldwide. The new regulations will take effect on April 30th.
Airbnb previously allowed indoor safety cameras to be installed in public areas such as corridors and living rooms of the property, as long as the relevant information is publicly and clearly visible on the property page before the user makes a reservation, and is not located in sleeping areas or bathrooms. Airbnb has clearly stipulated that safety cameras cannot be installed inside the property, regardless of their location, purpose, or prior disclosure.
The statement stated that most of the properties on the Airbnb platform have not reported being equipped with security cameras, and this policy update is expected to affect a small portion of the properties on the platform.
