Apple announced on January 25th that it will make a series of changes to its iOS, Safari browser, and App Store in the European Union to comply with the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA) in response to EU regulations. These changes aim to provide developers with new app distribution and payment processing options, while bringing new controls and information disclosure to users, as well as extended protection features to reduce privacy and security risks brought by DMA. Specific changes include the addition of over 600 new APIs, expanded app analysis capabilities, support for alternative browser engines, and new options for handling app payments and issuing iOS apps. Apple will introduce new protective measures to reduce the new risks posed by DMA to EU users, although these risks cannot be completely eliminated.
