American pharmaceutical giant Lilly announced on the 17th that it plans to invest $2.5 billion to build a high-tech production base in Alcai, Rhineland Pfalz, Germany. The company also plans to invest $100 million in the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Germany's life sciences and biotechnology industries.
It is reported that the production base will use state-of-the-art technologies such as automation technology and high-speed production lines to produce drugs. Lilly hopes to leverage this production base to expand its global production network of injectable drugs and related injection aids. Staff from the German pharmaceutical industry will play an important role in strengthening the supply of glucagon drugs to Lilly with their rich experience.
It is understood that the production base is planned to start construction in 2024 and be put into operation in 2027. At that time, approximately 1000 professionals will be employed.
