According to foreign technology media PCMag, starting from December 1st, Google will begin deleting millions of Gmail accounts that have not been used or logged in for at least two years.
Google stated that inactive email accounts may pose a significant cybersecurity threat as they are more susceptible to hacker intrusion. Therefore, Google will adopt a phased approach to delete inactive accounts, and before the account is deleted, Google will send multiple emails to remind users.
In fact, as early as 2020, Google had already developed the idea of deleting abandoned accounts on platforms such as Gmail and Google Photos.
The Vice President of Product Management at Google stated, "Forgotten or unmanaged accounts often rely on old or reused passwords, which may have been compromised and users have undergone less security checks. These accounts are therefore vulnerable to attacks and can be used to do anything once the account is breached
