On September 3rd, it was announced that Intel will establish a chip research and development base in Japan with the Institute of Integrated Industries and Technology (AIST). The new facility will be built within three to five years and equipped with extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) equipment. Equipment manufacturers and material companies will pay to use the facility for prototype design and testing. It is reported that this will be the first center in Japan where industry members can jointly use extreme ultraviolet lithography equipment.
