Arm, a chip design company under SoftBank Group, is reportedly planning to develop artificial intelligence chips and aims to launch the first batch of products by 2025. Arm will establish an artificial intelligence chip department with the goal of manufacturing prototype products by spring 2025. Mass production will be undertaken by contract manufacturers and is expected to begin in the fall of 2025. Arm will bear the initial development costs, which are expected to reach hundreds of billions of yen, and SoftBank will also contribute. The report states that once a large-scale production system is established, Arm's AI chip business may be spun off and placed under SoftBank. It is reported that SoftBank has been in negotiations with companies such as TSMC on manufacturing issues, hoping to ensure production capacity. (Nikkei News)
