On January 30th local time, US technology giant Microsoft announced its second quarter revenue data. Data shows that Microsoft's revenue for the quarter reached $62.02 billion, a year-on-year increase of 18%, with the gaming department's revenue reaching $7.11 billion.
Thanks to a significant 61% increase in revenue from Xbox content and services (included in XGP), Microsoft's gaming division has become the third largest business unit within the company after Enterprise Cloud (revenue of $23.95 billion) and Office (revenue of $13.47 billion), surpassing Microsoft's Windows.
During a conference call, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella stated that the development prospects of the company's gaming business are exciting: "During this quarter, Microsoft's monthly active users of games set historical records on Xbox, PC, and mobile platforms, with over 200 million monthly active users on mobile platforms alone."
This is the first time Microsoft has included Activision Blizzard's revenue data in the Xbox division. Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella has stated that games are the most likely entertainment scenario to be the first to apply the metaverse, and the acquisition of Activision Blizzard will advance Microsoft's metaverse strategy.
