Toyota Motor announced on January 29th that Toyota Industrial Corporation (TICO) reported to Toyota Motor Company, which commissioned TICO to develop diesel engines for automobiles, that the company had received a report from a special investigation committee, which believed that TICO may have violated emission certification related issues. The committee's investigation found that there were violations in the horsepower output tests of three automotive diesel engine models commissioned by Toyota for TICO certification. Ten car models worldwide use affected engines, with six in Japan.
Toyota stated that it has conducted a re inspection of the mass-produced products produced at the factory, confirming that the affected engines and vehicles meet the engine performance output standards. Therefore, it is not necessary to stop using the affected engine or vehicle. Toyota stated that based on the investigation results, TICO has decided to temporarily suspend the shipment of affected engines. Toyota has also decided to temporarily suspend shipments of vehicles equipped with affected engines.
