On November 26th, at the 2nd China International Supply Chain Promotion Expo (hereinafter referred to as the "Chain Expo"), Tesla unveiled its Model Y, Model 3 high-performance version, humanoid robot, and several important components of electric vehicles, creating a themed exhibition booth with "all design for safety and efficiency".
It is reported that "all design is for safety and efficiency" is Tesla's long-standing product philosophy and an important principle in its production and manufacturing work in China. At this year's Chain Expo, Tesla's exhibits include important components of electric vehicles such as electric drives, batteries, heat pump systems, and door limiters, as well as star products such as Model 3, Model Y, and humanoid robots, all of which are concrete manifestations of Tesla's "safety" and "efficiency".
Among them, as one of the smallest exhibits at Tesla's booth, the door limiter is one of the achievements jointly explored by Tesla and local supply chain partners in the field of safety. Its function is to prevent excessive deformation and misalignment between the car door and the body in the event of a collision, thereby ensuring that the car door can be opened after the collision and ensuring the safety of drivers and passengers.
It is reported that Tesla engineers found in the feasibility analysis of manufacturing that traditional processing techniques are costly, difficult, and product quality cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, engineers innovate and develop manufacturing processes and fully participate in the design and equipment debugging of supplier production lines. With the joint efforts of both parties, the manufacturing cycle of a single component has been shortened from about 400 seconds to around 50 seconds, significantly improving production efficiency while also reducing the difficulty of quality management after mass production.
At present, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory produces a complete vehicle on average every 30 seconds, with a localization rate of over 95% for parts. More than 400 local first tier suppliers have signed contracts in China, with over 60 suppliers entering Tesla's global supply chain system. According to statistics, in the first three quarters of this year, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory delivered 676000 new cars, accounting for more than half of Tesla's global deliveries in the first three quarters. In October of this year, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory produced its 3 millionth complete vehicle, with one-third of it exported to European and Asia Pacific markets.
Tesla stated that the strong driving force behind "Tesla efficiency" cannot be separated from "China efficiency". Tesla will work with suppliers to create safer and more efficient products, and also hopes to use its own advantages to lead more excellent domestic suppliers to the international stage.
