On December 3rd, General Motors announced the expansion of its 14 year battery technology partnership with LG New Energy, including the development of square batteries. General Motors will continue to use its Ultium Cells factories located in Warren, Ohio and Spring Hill, Tennessee to produce pouch batteries to meet the growing demand for its electric vehicles. On the same day, General Motors announced that it had reached a non binding agreement to sell its stake in the upcoming Ultium Cells battery plant in Lansing, Michigan to its joint venture partner LG New Energy.
