Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, announced on Wednesday that with the help of long-term partner TSMC, the design flaw of Nvidia's latest Blackwell AI chip has been fixed, which had previously affected production.
Nvidia launched the Blackwell chip series in March this year, which was originally expected to be shipped in the second quarter, but was postponed. Analysts say that this may affect clients such as Meta, Google's parent company Alphabet, and Microsoft.
According to Huang Renxun, due to design flaws in the Blackwell chip series, the yield rate was very low and far from meeting the requirements for mass production. Therefore, Nvidia had to choose to improve and redesign it to meet normal commercial production needs.
Our Blackwell has a design flaw. It is functional, and the design flaw resulted in a low yield rate. This is 100% Nvidia's fault, "he said.
He also refuted rumors that "Nvidia and TSMC are at odds" and said that TSMC is still a natural partner. Nvidia is also very grateful for TSMC's strong assistance, which helped Nvidia successfully repair the defects and enable the smooth mass production of the Blackwell chip series.
In order to ensure the normal operation of computing devices based on Blackwell, Nvidia designed seven different types of chips from scratch and had to be put into production simultaneously. And what TSMC did was help us recover from the production crisis and restore Blackwell's production at an incredible speed, "he added.
At a recent Goldman Sachs meeting, Huang Renxun stated that he expects Blackwell chips to be shipped in the fourth quarter.
Driven by optimism about the AI boom and Blackwell chips, Nvidia's stock price has risen by about 190% this year. Investors are currently preparing for the company's next performance report, which will be released on November 20th.
Wall Street analysts generally predict that Nvidia's third quarter revenue will increase by 83% to $33.1 billion; Earnings per share will reach $0.74, a year-on-year increase of 84%.
In addition, Wall Street experts also expect that the stock will have more upward potential and continue to raise Nvidia's target stock price. Last week, Bank of America strategists raised Nvidia's target stock price from $165 per share to $190 per share. Analysts from the bank pointed out that the artificial intelligence market will experience exponential growth in the coming years, which will bring "intergenerational opportunities" to Nvidia.
Goldman Sachs estimates that Blackwell can also help Nvidia generate billions of dollars in revenue.
By integrating 7 chips, each chip can achieve higher performance at the data center level. We believe that the introduction and improvement of Blackwell is not only a driving force for revenue growth in the near and medium term, but also a driving force for expanding Nvidia's competitive advantage. We expect the product's revenue to reach billions of dollars in January next year and further growth in April and beyond, "the bank said.
