Recently, the 6th "Starbucks Yunnan Green Bean Excellent Supplier Conference" was held in Pu'er, Yunnan. For coffee farmers, this grand event has a more familiar name "Wulin Conference".
At the meeting, Liu Wenjuan, Starbucks Global Executive Vice President and Starbucks China CEO, announced, "For 12 years, we have witnessed the great leap in Yunnan coffee production and quality with the hard work and sweat of coffee farmers. From now on, we can finally add high-quality Yunnan coffee beans to every cup of Starbucks classic espresso sold in mainland China. Every Starbucks store in mainland China will also sell Yunnan single origin coffee beans
We love coffee, the people behind it, and the land beneath our feet. We hope that Yunnan coffee has a bright future, that Yunnan coffee farmers can live a better life, and that we can tell the world that there is also good coffee in China. "Liu Wenjuan said that for Starbucks, the best way to support Yunnan coffee is to deliver more and more Yunnan coffee to customers. In this way, our procurement volume will also increase. I hope more coffee enthusiasts can join us in supporting Yunnan coffee to go global with actions.
The most exciting thing for coffee farmers at this year's "Wulin Conference" is hearing that Yunnan coffee beans will be included in the classic Starbucks espresso used in China in the future. Classic espresso is Starbucks' most well-known, classic, and widely used coffee bean. To achieve this, the production and quality of Yunnan coffee beans need to reach a high level. This is not an overnight achievement, but the result of 12 years of joint efforts between Starbucks and coffee farmers, "said Liu Wenjuan." Blending Yunnan coffee beans into all Starbucks classic espresso is a remarkable milestone. This stems from our original intention of 'bringing Yunnan coffee to the world', and also further strengthens our emotional connection with local coffee farmers
According to a reporter from Securities Daily, the Yunnan Coffee Farmers' "Wulin Conference" was born in 2015 and is the only award ceremony organized by the coffee industry for Yunnan coffee farmers. It aims to express Starbucks' respect and gratitude for the hard work of coffee farmers during the transition of the old and new coffee seasons in Yunnan. At the same time, by setting an example of high-quality coffee, it encourages more coffee farmers to work together with Starbucks and make Yunnan coffee better and better.
In addition to increasing the income of coffee farmers and helping upgrade the coffee industry in Yunnan, Starbucks' deep cultivation in Yunnan has also extended to launching five consecutive innovative public welfare projects to benefit the local community. Since 2018, Starbucks has committed to investing nearly 45 million yuan, covering more than 30 coffee growing villages in Yunnan Province and directly benefiting over 10000 coffee farmers. From "hardware assistance" to "soft power empowerment", Starbucks has provided production and processing equipment and skill training for coffee farmers in Yunnan, introduced digital smart agriculture, and created a coffee tourism integrated rural revitalization model. It has also trained rural talents in the latest phase to revitalize unique cultural resources in rural areas. This assistance combination that meets the needs of coffee producing regions is continuously activating the unlimited development vitality and energy of local communities.
