Caixin News Agency, October 15th - According to Canalys' latest survey data, Samsung still maintains its leading position in the global mobile phone market in the third quarter of 2024, occupying 18% of the market share. Following closely behind is Apple, with a market share of 18%, which is almost identical to Samsung and close to becoming the world's number one.
After the launch of the new generation iPhone at the autumn product launch event over the years, the shipment volume of Apple iPhone usually increases significantly. If it is launched in the third quarter, the shipment volume in the third quarter will increase, and in the following quarter, it will push them to the top of the list, becoming the manufacturer with the highest shipment volume of smart phones.
The iPhone 16 series smartphones launched by Apple at its autumn product launch event starting at 1am on September 10th this year were already available on September 20th. And in the third quarter of this year, Apple's iPhone shipments reached the highest level in the past three quarters, with a market share comparable to Samsung Electronics, which ranked first in smartphone shipments, approaching the top spot.
However, according to reports from market research institutions, Apple's iPhone shipments reached a new high in the third quarter and are close to becoming the number one. The strong performance of the iPhone 15 series and earlier models played a key role.
Although executives from market research institutions believe that the initial response to the iPhone 16 series was mediocre, without the large number of initial shipments of the iPhone 16 series, the overall shipment volume of iPhones would inevitably be affected.
Analysts predict that as Apple Intelligence expands into new markets and supports more languages, the iPhone 16 will help Apple maintain strong growth in 2024 and continue its momentum into the first half of 2025.
It is reported that the Apple Intelligence feature will be launched on October 28th along with the official version of iOS 18.1.
However, initially, Apple Intelligence was only available in English, and Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish versions will be officially launched next year. Among them, multiple markets including China require local approval before use.
