The highly anticipated Tesla "We, Robot" launch event has come to an end, and the capital market is voting with their feet on this event.
On October 11th Eastern Time, Tesla's US stock price plummeted sharply before trading, dropping nearly 7% during trading. As of around 6:00 on that day, Tesla's stock price fell by over 5.5%, and its market value evaporated by over $40 billion.
In terms of A-share performance, the autonomous driving sector briefly rose during the trading session on October 11th, with Xingyuan Zhuomagnesium, Runhe Software, Zhejiang Shibao, and Chengmai Technology leading the way in gains, with Zhejiang Shibao even being pulled to the limit up at one point. However, the rise of the above-mentioned stocks did not drive the entire autonomous driving sector (BK0802) to rise, and the sector continued to decline in the afternoon. Zhejiang Shibao also opened its daily limit up in the afternoon. As of the close on October 11th, the autonomous driving sector index has fallen by over 4.8%.
At around 11:00 am Beijing time on October 11th, the "We, Robot" launch event, which Tesla CEO Elon Musk called "historic," officially began. The event unveiled two autonomous vehicles and also revealed the latest progress of Optimus humanoid robots. At this press conference, the Tesla Robotaxi autonomous taxi was officially released, named Cybercab. The car has a similar appearance to the Cybertruck and features two seater and butterfly wing doors. It is not equipped with a steering wheel or pedals and has induction charging function; In addition to Cybercab, Tesla has also released the autonomous cargo vehicle Robovan, which can carry 20 people and transport goods.
But the information about these two cars did not come as much surprise, which is basically consistent with the previous market reports. In terms of vehicle cost, Musk has released some new information, among which the Cybercab's vehicle cost is expected to be less than $30000 and will be put into production in 2026, with large-scale deployment before 2027. The operating cost of Cybercab is still relatively high at around $1 per mile, and will decrease to around $0.2 per mile in the future. Robovan travel costs can be significantly reduced, at around 10-15 cents per UK.
In addition, Musk also announced Tesla's progress in Optimus robots, stating that the cost of mass-produced Optimus robots will be between $20000 and $30000. Humanoid robots will be able to serve coffee and take care of children in the future
Overall, the above information did not exceed market expectations. Moreover, Tesla did not specifically mention the "practical" issues that the market is concerned about, such as when Robotaxi can provide services, charging standards, global market launch plans, profit turning points, and how to handle safety accidents.
Many Wall Street analysts still believe that due to regulatory barriers and doubts about the safety of its autonomous driving technology, Tesla will need several more years to truly implement Robotaxi. Analysts from US investment bank Jefferies stated that Musk did not provide "verifiable evidence" of progress in Tesla's autonomous driving technology, which "makes it difficult for us to assess the feasibility of Musk's goals outlined at the conference, as there is currently no precedent for using visual alone to achieve higher levels of autonomous driving.
