On October 9th, the US Department of Justice submitted a document to a federal court on Tuesday, presenting a range of potential options from behavioral restrictions to a split to address what a judge called Google's illegal monopoly in the search industry. The document states that the government is considering adopting a "series of comprehensive tools" to restore competition, including "structural" adjustments to Google's business to prevent it from using products such as Chrome browser or Android operating system to give Google's search engine an advantage.
Google responded in a blog post that the initial proposal by the Department of Justice to reform the search engine market is "radical and far-reaching," and may have "negative unintended consequences for American innovation and American consumers. (Wall Street Journal)
