According to media reports, former US President Donald Trump visited Congress on Thursday local time to meet with Republican congressmen and held a private meeting with House Republicans.
According to the attendees, Trump criticized the current President Biden's electric vehicle policy during the meeting. He also stated that if he moves into the White House in November this year, these policies will be revoked.
Idaho Republican Representative Russ Fulcher told the media that Trump told lawmakers, "Biden's authorization of all batteries and electrification is crazy."
Fulcher said, "He (Trump) said that policies will be completely reversed. He made his position very, very clear - he opposes our existing policies."
In March of this year, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released emission standards for new cars from 2027 to 2032. Officials say this is the most ambitious greenhouse gas reduction plan for passenger cars in the history of the United States.
Specifically, by 2032, the upper limit for emissions from new light vehicles will be 85 grams per mile; In 2027, it will be 170 grams per mile, and most of the emissions reductions will be achieved after 2030.
According to the new regulations, car manufacturers can meet the emission requirements for 2032 by increasing the sales of pure electric vehicles to 56% of total sales, plug-in hybrid models to 13% of total sales, and traditional combustion engine models to 29% of total sales.
On Thursday of this week, the US oil and ethanol industry organization filed a lawsuit to block this emission standard, claiming that these limits are "illegal" and forcing car manufacturers to sell electric vehicles.
Virginia Republican Representative Morgan Griffith said that Trump also complained during the meeting about Biden's policy of forcing people to buy electric cars. Griffith said, "He (Trump) said it's too crazy, he's prepared to do something about it."
Trump has repeatedly stated in the past that if he wins the election and takes office, he will abolish the electric vehicle support policy promoted by Biden. He often states that electric vehicles are not feasible and will harm American automotive workers in the industry.
It is worth mentioning that earlier Thursday, Elon Musk praised Trump in front of numerous Tesla fans and shareholders, stating that the former president often called him and was a "super fan" of Tesla's electric pickup truck Cybertruck.
