On June 3rd, Toyota announced that according to instructions from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport on January 26th this year, Toyota is investigating certification applications for its vehicle models. Although the investigation is still ongoing, the testing methods of 7 models (including some discontinued models) currently do not comply with government standards.
At present, there is insufficient pedestrian and passenger protection test data for the three in production models (Corolla Field/Axio and Yaris Cross) involved in certification application issues, as well as four discontinued models such as the Crown.
In the announcement, Toyota apologized and stated that the three models produced in Japan for sale will be discontinued immediately.
