According to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, on February 5th, vivo and Nokia reached a global patent cross licensing agreement, which covers both parties' standard essential patents in 5G and other cellular communication technologies. After the agreement is signed, both parties will end all pending litigation in all jurisdictions.
Vivo's General Manager of Legal Affairs, Xu Xianwen, stated that based on long-term investment in research and development in the field of 5G communication standards, Vivo has currently applied for over 6000 5G communication standard patents worldwide. The global patent cross licensing agreement reached with Nokia reflects the respect and recognition of each other's cellular standard technology patent value, and will also help build a healthy industry environment for development.
Jenni Lukander, President of Nokia Technologies, stated that reaching an agreement with vivo reflects both parties' respect for each other's intellectual property rights and hopes that their cooperation can bring more innovative results to global users.
As of December 31, 2023, vivo has laid out 25000 patent applications in over 70 countries and regions worldwide, including over 6000 5G communication standard patents, declared over 2500 5G standard patents in ETSI, and submitted a total of approximately 13500 standard documents in 3GPP. According to the report "Leader in 5G Patent Competition" released by the international patent data statistics platform IPLytics, vivo 5G standard essential patents rank among the top.
