General Motors has announced that it will temporarily lay off two-thirds of its workers at its assembly plant in Fairfax, Kansas, as it prepares to begin production of the next generation Chevrolet Bolt model.
The company will invest approximately $390 million in the Fairfax assembly plant to increase production of the new Chevrolet Bolt EV, "General Motors said in a statement." In order to facilitate the installation of new tools, employees will be temporarily laid off until mid-2025 when production resumes
According to reports, layoffs will begin in November, with a total of 1695 people laid off, and the production of Chevrolet Malibu mid size sedan will end at that time. The factory currently produces Chevrolet Malibu and Cadillac XT4 models. According to its website, the factory has approximately 2275 employees. (Bloomberg)
