On April 24th, NVIDIA's first super AI chip DGX H200 system was delivered, and NVIDIA founder and CEO Huang Renxun personally delivered it to their doorstep. OpenAI became the first user.
OpenAI President and co-founder Greg Brockman released this message on the X platform and sent out a photo with Huang Renxun and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Huang Renxun's personal delivery of DGX H200 to OpenAI is not only a symbolic gesture to strengthen the partnership, but also demonstrates the crucial role of cutting-edge hardware in advancing artificial intelligence technology. Huang Renxun stated that he will promote AI, computing, and civilization.
As these two industry leaders continue to collaborate, it demonstrates that the innovative potential of artificial intelligence is limitless and is expected to bring change to various industries.
The DGX H200 is Nvidia's latest and most advanced mass-produced AI chip, representing a significant leap in the field of artificial intelligence technology. It is also currently the most powerful artificial intelligence specific chip hardware in the world. This delivery is a critical moment for OpenAI, a leader in the field of artificial intelligence research.
Compared to the previous generation H100, H200 has significantly improved performance. The main upgrades include a 1.4-fold increase in memory bandwidth, a 1.8-fold increase in memory capacity, a total memory bandwidth of 4.8TB/s, and a memory capacity of 141GB.
These performance enhancements are mainly driven by the integration of HBM3e memory technology, which can achieve faster processing speed and more efficient data processing. This is crucial for training larger and more complex artificial intelligence models, especially those used in generative AI applications for generating new content such as text, images, and predictive analysis.
Ian Buck, Vice President of NVIDIA High Performance Computing Products, emphasized the performance of the DGX H200 in a recent presentation, stating that "the expanded and faster memory of the DGX H200 is aimed at significantly improving the performance of computationally intensive tasks, including training complex generative AI models and other high-performance computing applications, while optimizing GPU utilization efficiency."
For OpenAI, obtaining DGX H200 is an important strategic initiative that will enhance their AI research capabilities, especially driving the development of the highly anticipated GPT-5 model. The enhancement of H200's capabilities will enable OpenAI to break through the limits that its artificial intelligence models can currently reach, especially in terms of data processing speed and complexity.
The impact of DGX H200 is not limited to this. Its introduction into the market will promote the progress of the entire AI industry and enable researchers and developers to solve more problems, which will bring major breakthroughs in drug discovery, climate modeling, autonomous vehicle technology and other fields.
The high-tech industry has an unprecedented demand for high-performance artificial intelligence processors, and in this context, the supply and demand issues of H200 are also worth paying attention to. The shortage of H100 is due to the huge demand. Nvidia is eager to avoid this situation after H200 delivery by collaborating with global system manufacturers and cloud service providers.
Huang Renxun responded to the high demand and acquisition of GPUs during the recent financial report conference call and stated that he will make every effort to allocate resources fairly and avoid wastage. But the actual delivery of H200 remains to be observed.
