The US Department of Justice said on March 11th that Ford Motor Company has agreed to pay $365 million to settle a lawsuit involving its imported freight vehicles disguised as passenger cars with lower tariffs. The U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement that Ford imported nearly 163000 Transit Connect commercial vehicles from Türkiye from 2009 to 2013, which were equipped with "fake rear seats and other temporary configurations, making the vehicles look like passenger cars". Ford declared them as passenger cars to the customs to avoid paying higher tariffs. Ford pays tariffs at a rate of 2.5% for passenger cars, while 25% for trucks. Ford does not admit to fraud, claiming that these rear seats are genuine. The related litigation has been ongoing for many years. Xinhua News Agency
