LG Electronics stated that Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta platform, met with senior management of LG Electronics on Tuesday (February 27) to discuss strengthening cooperation in the field of Extended Reality (XR) devices and potential cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.
Zuckerberg arrived in South Korea late Tuesday, after reports that he would hold talks with South Korean President Yoon Seok yeol and leaders of the country's technology giants, as well as talks on artificial intelligence issues.

Collaboration accelerates XR business
XR wearable devices have the potential to significantly expand customer interaction, surpassing the limitations of mobile screens in terms of immersion and intuitiveness. Cao Zhouwan previously stated, "We see opportunities for the next generation of personal devices in the XR business field."
Last June, Meta launched its latest hybrid reality headphone Quest 3, while its competitor Apple launched the Vision Pro device this month, intensifying market competition. LG Electronics had previously decided to enter the XR track. In January of this year, Cao Zhouwan pointed out, "Next year, at the latest, XR products will be launched within two years."
In the XR field, LG Electronics' vision for collaboration is to form a unique ecosystem by combining Meta's platform with LG Electronics TV's content and service capabilities. In addition, the combination of Meta's multiple core technological elements with LG's cutting-edge products and quality capabilities is expected to generate significant synergies in the development of next-generation XR devices.
In recent years, LG's strategy has mainly focused resources on areas with broad prospects and the potential to achieve high growth, and has chosen to minimize marginal business. The cooperation discussed with Meta company this time is in line with this strategy, aiming to lead the innovation of future virtual space customer experience and promote the comprehensive development of the XR market.
Potential collaborations in artificial intelligence
In addition, Cao Zhouwan expressed interest in Meta's artificial intelligence technology based on large-scale language models and discussed the possibility of cooperation between the two parties on artificial intelligence devices.
This is Zuckerberg's first visit to South Korea in 10 years. According to a government source familiar with the situation, Zuckerberg's trip to South Korea will also meet with President Yoon Seok yeol and Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae yong.
It is expected that Zuckerberg will discuss the supply of artificial intelligence chips and the expansion of the generative artificial intelligence ecosystem during his visit to South Korea.
Meta is currently fully deploying its artificial intelligence track and plans to apply generative artificial intelligence technology to its core social media products and hardware devices this year.
It is reported that the company plans to develop customized chips and deploy them in data centers to support the development of its artificial intelligence; In addition, it plans to acquire approximately 350000 H100 graphics processing units from Nvidia by the end of the year.
