On February 25th, Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast India, a Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer, stated in an interview that the company has started building a factory in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu and hopes to start production by mid next year. It will first be sold domestically in India and then exported.
Pham Sanh Chau stated that VinFast has called on the Indian government to reduce car import tariffs, "if reduced to 70% to 80%, for a period of two years," so that customers can become familiar with the company's products.
At the beginning of last month, VinFast and Tamil Nadu agreed to invest up to $2 billion to build their first production facility in India, with plans to invest $500 million in the first five years of the project.
