Vietnam has excellent chip packaging capacity, but does not have advanced chip manufacturing capacity. As the global attention to the chip industry increases, Vietnam is also seeking to break through the constraints of the existing chip industry chain and build a complete semiconductor supply chain locally.
The visit of NVIDIA CEO Huang Renxun is undoubtedly an excellent opportunity. Last Saturday, Huang Renxun arrived in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, marking his first visit to Vietnam.
According to an invitation letter received from the outside world, he will attend a semiconductor cooperation conference hosted by the Vietnam Investment Bureau on Monday to discuss with local companies.
The Vietnamese government was the first to reveal that NVIDIA will establish a production base in Vietnam to develop the semiconductor industry, as the company believes that the Vietnamese market is very important.
The Vietnamese government also stated in a statement that Nvidia's production base will attract talent from around the world and contribute to Vietnam's semiconductor ecosystem and digital development.
The beginning of technology transfer
NVIDIA will discuss potential partnerships and technology sharing with Vietnamese companies at Monday's meeting. FPT, Vingroup, Viettel and other large Vietnamese technology companies have confirmed their attendance at the conference.
An industry insider pointed out that a deal is expected to be reached at this meeting, and Nvidia will reach a technology transfer agreement with at least one Vietnamese company. And this will be a key advancement for Nvidia to begin transferring important technologies to Vietnam, helping Vietnam to exert greater influence in the global semiconductor market.
According to reports, Nvidia has invested $250 million in Vietnam. A document released by the White House in September showed that Nvidia has partnered with Vietnamese technology giants to deploy artificial intelligence in the cloud, automotive, and healthcare industries.
Before NVIDIA, Vietnam had Intel's largest global factory and was one of the key players in the chip packaging field. But the Vietnamese government hopes to also get a share of the chip manufacturing industry, and has been seeking cooperation with international chip companies in recent months.
Nvidia focuses on Southeast Asia, and last week, Huang Renxun began visiting Southeast Asian countries. Last Friday, when he was in Malaysia, he also stated that Malaysia will be a very important center for computing infrastructure in Southeast Asia.
