Recently, carrying playing cards into the park encountered obstacles and once again pushed Disney to the forefront. Subsequently, some media conducted on-site visits and encountered package flipping. Surprisingly, security personnel claimed that "manual bag search and inspection" is a "tradition" of Shanghai Disneyland. For such 'tradition', many netizens still feel that it is not particularly reasonable because there are some private things after all.
Why do netizens use the word 'still'? Because Disney has moved away from 'tradition'. As early as many years ago, Disney sparked widespread discussion due to its "security check style package flipping". In 2019, students from East China University of Political Science and Law also sued Shanghai Disneyland for tampering with prohibited food and drink. Finally, under the mediation of Shanghai Pudong Court, the plaintiff and defendant voluntarily reached a mediation agreement: the defendant Shanghai International Theme Park Co., Ltd. compensated the plaintiff Wang Jieying with RMB 50. As a law student, "competitive" Xiao Wang expressed the hope that this case can create greater public welfare value, calling on the public to pay more attention to their own rights and say no to unreasonable systems.
Although Disney has repeatedly stated that "security checks" are for tourists, bag flipping checks not only affect the gaming experience, but are also not the only and necessary choice to ensure safety. According to media reports, there are dozens of X-ray security cameras at the Shanghai Disneyland security checkpoint, but only two were activated during the reporter's visit. In contrast, dozens of staff at the entrance are conducting bag flipping checks on tourists. Why do we have to resort to time-consuming and laborious manual bag flipping when X-ray security cameras can do it? What is Shanghai Disneyland really afraid of? What else do you want to block out?
For many years, Shanghai Disneyland has used various grandiose reasons to cover up the ugliness of "flipping packages", and now proudly claims that this is "tradition". Little do they know that pride and arrogance are only one word apart, such an attitude will only make people feel disgusted. Disney itself is a profit oriented enterprise, and it is understandable and justified to pursue rich profits, including food sales. As long as the prices of various services, products, and food within the park are reasonable, such a large number of visitors will not worry about profitability.
Unfortunately, Shanghai Disneyland has been suspected of excluding consumers' right to freedom of choice by constantly causing trouble through flipping packages in order to prohibit this and that, similar to a "tyrannical clause". Nowadays, using "tradition" as an excuse to cover up the embarrassment of package inspection is even more unacceptable than confidently saying "to sell products in the park".
It is worth pondering that Shanghai Disneyland is not the only one that offers package flipping services to tourists. But why only Shanghai has provoked public anger? The key to the problem may lie in behavior, attitude, and more importantly, it does not give tourists dignity. After all, searching and revealing backpacks that belong to tourists' privacy in public places is already an incorrect behavior. If the handling method is improper, it is not surprising that it may cause resentment and even lead to being blacklisted. May I ask which tourist who spends a few hundred yuan to buy a ticket can accept the staff's negative attitude of not treating themselves as consumers?
For internationally renowned brands like Disney, putting aside one's ego and listening more to the voices of tourists is the "right path" to deeply cultivate the Chinese market. If the catering prices in the park are reasonable, many tourists do not have a strong demand to bring their own food. If the configuration is rich and can meet the peak flow of people, there will be no farce of "toilet card". How to find a balance between environmental protection, profitability, and tourist needs is an urgent and necessary business strategy for Shanghai Disneyland. As a netizen said, amusement parks have the right to refuse you entry, and you also have the freedom to go to other amusement parks. After all, 'voting with feet' is also an unchanging 'tradition' in the consumer market.
