In the first three quarters of 2024, Tesla has delivered approximately 1.3 million vehicles, with nearly 7 million global car owners. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the Shanghai Gigafactory delivered 675000 vehicles in the first three quarters of this year, accounting for over half of Tesla's global deliveries in the first three quarters. In March of this year, Tesla became the world's first company to break through the production milestone of 6 million pure electric vehicles, with the Shanghai Gigafactory contributing nearly half of its production capacity, making it Tesla's "capacity manager".
In January 2019, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory broke ground and completed the first batch of Model 3 deliveries on December 30 of the same year. Tesla's speed of "starting construction, starting production, and delivering in the same year" is highly praised. In August 2022, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory achieved the production of its one millionth complete vehicle. In September 2023, the 200000th complete vehicle will be produced. In October of this year, the 3 millionth complete vehicle was produced.
It is reported that the Shanghai Gigafactory took 32 months to produce from 0 to 1 million vehicles; From 2 million to 3 million vehicles, it only took 13 months. In less than 5 years, the Shanghai Gigafactory has achieved a breakthrough from 1 to 3 million yuan. Currently, the Shanghai Gigafactory is the world's highest capacity vehicle Gigafactory.
The Shanghai Gigafactory is Tesla's first Gigafactory outside of the United States, the first wholly foreign-owned vehicle manufacturing project in China, and the most efficient factory in Tesla's history. At present, the localization rate of the industrial chain of Shanghai Super Factory has exceeded 95%, and 99.99% of its employees are Chinese. The efficiency and diligence of the Chinese team have created one production milestone after another for Tesla and the global automotive industry.
In addition, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory has also become an important member of China's manufacturing going global. On September 28th of this year, the one millionth exported overseas vehicle from Shanghai Super Factory was officially produced and shipped from Shanghai Nangang Port to the UK. Of the 3 million vehicles produced at the Shanghai Gigafactory, one-third have already been exported to overseas markets such as Europe and Asia Pacific, gaining high recognition from overseas markets. It is reported that the Model 3 and Model Y sold in the Australian market are both from the Shanghai Gigafactory.
The reporter learned that thanks to the efficiency of the Shanghai Gigafactory and Tesla's cost pricing logic, the prices of Model 3 and Model Y in the Chinese market are lower than those in other global markets. Chinese consumers can enjoy these two globally popular models at the lowest prices in the world.
Tesla has made significant progress in energy storage products. In the third quarter of 2024, Tesla's installed capacity of energy storage products reached 6.9 gigawatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 73%. The cumulative installed capacity in the first three quarters reached 20.4 gigawatt hours, further consolidating Tesla's competitive position in the energy storage market.
The Tesla energy storage super factory in Shanghai Lingang is also accelerating construction. As of the end of September, the construction progress of the main factory building has exceeded 60%, and it is expected to be officially put into operation in the first quarter of next year. The factory plans to produce 10000 commercial energy storage battery Megapacks annually, with an energy storage capacity of nearly 40GWh, to supply the global market. It will become another new business card for "Made in China" on the international stage.
