Recently, Ross Young, an analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), an authoritative analysis institution in the display industry, released a prediction that Apple's next generation Pro Display XDR monitor will adopt the same quantum dot display technology as the latest MacBook Pro.
It is currently uncertain whether Young's prediction has been confirmed by a specific source of information. However, given his profound background in the display industry and accurate predictions about rumors related to Apple's future products, his views are of great reference value. For example, he had previously accurately revealed that the iPhone 16 Pro would be equipped with large screens of 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches.
Young mentioned that compared to the KSF phosphor film used in Apple's current Pro Display XDR and early MacBook Pro, the latest quantum dot display film performs better or at least equal in color gamut support and has improved athletic performance. This means that the Pro Display XDR 2 is expected to achieve significant improvements in color accuracy and response time compared to the current model.
Apple released the Pro Display XDR in 2019 and simultaneously launched the new generation Mac Pro. However, since then, this high-end 32 inch external monitor has not undergone any hardware updates. This monitor features an LCD panel, LED backlight, 6K resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, a maximum brightness of 1600 nits, and is equipped with one Thunderbolt 3 port and three USB-C ports. In the US market, the starting price for this monitor is $4999, while purchasing its accompanying Pro Stand requires an additional payment of $999.
In 2022, Mark Gurman revealed that Apple was developing an upgraded version of the Pro Display XDR with built-in Apple self-developed chips, which the current model does not have. In Studio Display, the A13 Bionic chip has successfully supported functions such as automatic composition of Center Stage cameras, spatial audio, and Siri voice commands. In addition, users also expect the new monitor to add additional features such as built-in cameras, speakers, and higher refresh rates.
As for the specific release time of Pro Display XDR 2, it is still unknown.
