According to the Associated Press, on October 17th local time, the United States House of Representatives completed the first round of speaker voting and was unable to elect a new speaker. The House of Representatives announced a temporary recess.
It is reported that in the first round of voting, Republican candidate and Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jim Jordan, received 200 votes (with 20 Republicans not voting), and House Democratic leader Hakim Jeffries received 212 votes.
Jim Jordan stated that the House of Representatives will hold a second vote at 11am on the 18th, and he and his supporters will work hard to persuade opponents to support him instead.
Jim Jordan also stated that he will not run for Speaker by collaborating with Democrats, "regardless of the round of voting.

There are currently 433 members of Congress in the United States, with 221 members from the Republican camp and 212 members from the Democratic camp, respectively. If no one is absent to vote, the winning Speaker must obtain at least 217 votes in the entire House.
